About Us

Built upon our founders’ experience in masonry restoration and our education in historic conservation practices, Lime and Clay has a mission to advance education on historic mortars, support the conservation of historic structures, and provide trusted materials for preservation work. Our goal is to provide resources to help inform decisions that support the health and integrity of historic buildings.

Our company grew from our experience in the field. Our sourcing of masonry materials was inconsistent, with incompatible materials and standardized products lacking the specificity needed for our projects. In response, Lime and Clay became a source of expertise in masonry materials and in producing solutions tailored to every project.

Our responsibility is to the building. Through education, consultation, and material preparation, we believe that those who desire to care for historic structures should understand what is most appropriate for their building.

Education of Masonry

Lime and Clay works to inform visitors about the history, composition, and application of mortar throughout the Southern Gulf region of the United States. Through educational resources and research, our goal is to familiarize visitors with the development of mortar, its material properties, and historic mixes. By sharing our knowledge, we encourage an understanding of material compatibility in historic conservation to support knowledgeable approaches to preserving historic masonry.
